recovering from a week long cold.

After my last blog of the Team McAllen ITT, I have been sick with alot of cough and congestion and recovered just in time for the weekend. Saturday morning was my first ride in 6days and I was feeling it. I had felt sluggish, weak and unmotivated to do anything. Saturday was a really painful ride for me because I hadn't worked out my muscles and it was a seriously painful 60mi.

I dont like the douche on the cervelo right now
Sunday morning ride i had to redeem myself for not riding for a couple of days so i decided to go ride with Eric and Surge at the meeting grounds of the Elites of Team McAllen. it was a cold morning and these riders were ready to do a high paced training ride or should i say race. Riding with the elites on sunday is seriously a rush because our speed is about 26mph+ and everybody is into what they are doing. There is no room for clowning around with a bunch of experienced riders like these.

Getting Stronger

Wally's Crew
My Beautiful Cervelo P3
Yesterday I completed the Team McAllen individual Time Trial. 10miles of pure power and absolute pain. I finished this time trial in a really good time of 25:38. I came in 2nd Place overall which was a major accomplishment for me. i am becoming a stronger rider and it seems everybody is noticing. The winning time was a 25:08 which is 30sec faster than my time so i have alot of room for improvement. Sugre came in 3rd with a time of 26:10 :b. and Eric cam in with a time of 26:58. Not a bad day for the three training buddies.  I am not going to stop doing what i love, which is cycling and living a healthy fast paced life style. My goal for the new year is to be the strongest cyclist/ Triathlete my body will let me be.
This is my brother, my competition my Best friend
Eric is the older brother ive never had.

Edinburg 10k

This past Saturday I ran the All American City Edinburg 10k. It was a frigid morning and I was freezing my socks off!! I was really nervous about how I was going to do because I hadn't ran in about 3-4 weeks and i was excited to know where I would stand in my running game. When the the race started i had a good 6:25 pace for the first two miles then at then then BOOM, it felt like I hit a wall. I had a massive pain underneath my rib cage, it felt like someone was inflating a balloon in my chest. So my 6:25 pace dropped to a pretty bad 8:30 pace. i was literally in pain, i seriously wanted to walk the rest of the race. But i told myself i couldn't. If i would have walked my friends " Eric the Beast Jimenez and Surge the Urge Garza" who went out there to support me would have ripped me new one! So i gathered what ever strength I got left and i pushed my self back to a 6:45-7:15 pace and kept it there for the whole race. I was glad that I finished with a PR of 44:01. I really surprised myself because I did a personal best without training and realized that i could have dropped another 2min by not getting cramped up at mile 2. So this race really showed the potential I have in running.

If you don't give it your all, you'll never know your limits.

Today was a beautiful day in South Texas. the weather today was in the high 40's after 3pm. This was our opportunity to take advantage of the only sunlight till Sunday afternoon. There was only four brave souls on today's chilly ride. Surge, Eric, Juan "Juanito", and myself. We  had to help Juan prepare for his huge race in Castroville so i wasn't going to let him take to much of an easy day. I know that i have slacked off for the past couple of months but, these past two weeks i have been making an effort of riding and running everyday putting is some for of exercise for at least 45min a day doing so i feel so much stronger and i am able to push myself to the brink of 195pbm. On today's fast ride every time i was up in front leading the pack i wanted to at least try to make them hurt. I say try because everybody in that group are wayyyyy better than me and i just want to be half the riders they are. They all have their titles. Surge is the Speed demon, and Eric is our Clysdale beast, and Juan........who knows what he is but he is a very seasoned athlete. I would try my absolute  best to pull as fast and as strong as i could. I feel so much stronger pulling I was able to hit 29mph going northboud for over 20sec i was stoked! what made my self confidence go up more was that Juan said that I have gotten stronger. when we were almost back to our vehicles i tried a last ditch effort to break my max mph for the day. I straddled the saddle and just gave it my all. I kept looking at my speedometer as it read 27.....29.......33.....35....and then 36. That was the fastest i ever hit on a valley flat : ). Overall today was an amazing ride!

Loving the cold weather but,.......

This doesn't seem to promising.....
Train train train........yeah i dont think so, we have a severe freeze that wont let us ride our speed demons till sunday. it is to cold to even think about hoping in the saddle. as of right now i have my Castelli leg warmers and im not even riding, im just in regular street clothing and im still freezing. I even have two base layers, a long sleeve shirt and my North Face Jacket. the funny part is im also wearing my pearlizumi cycling soft shell golves to protect me from these frigid weather. In order to keep our legs strong we will have a cycling trainer party with my cylops fluid pro trainer in the near future. I cant imagine how people up north stay in strong racing condition with freezing weather like this! i wouldnt be able to stand the wind chill of 7 degrees!

Get used to Sally

Sally= My awesome Cervelo P3 !

you guys are probably thinking who is sally? Well Sally is my Time Trial/ Triathlon bike which i acquired in the 2010 from Wally's Bicycles. She is one beautiful piece of work, sleek, fast and really light! I havent had the time to ride this bike as much due to you cant really do hard training on a tt bike as per its mainly used for long distances and for time trials. I am going to start riding my Cervelo P3 more often due to I'm doing the Galveston Half ironman and getting used to aero postition for 56 miles is a pretty hard thing to do.
This mornings ride was pretty hard and intense, we worked on time trial intervals which we maintained a pace of 24-25mph against the wind for a consistent 3 minutes. But i kept chugging a lot right next to the speed demon Surge. I stayed with him throughout the whole ride. So i know I'm improving all around now. I feel this soreness in my legs but i know its cause im getting stronger day by day. we have an individual time trial on sunday which we are going to race against the clock to see where we stand for this racing season this tt while this will test all of the training we have been doing for months. so when sunday comes you gotta leave it all on the asphalt.
